JULY/AUGUST Classes at FATV
Basic Production Skills This is a comprehensive class that will provide you with many of the skills needed to successfully produce your own field productions. This class meets twice. All members should take this class, however if you have prior experience, you may be able to test out of this requirement. Prerequisite: Orientation. Tuesday, August 10 & 17 at 2pm BP6 90 minutes each Lighting This class will introduce you to the fundamentals of 3-Point lighting, the foundation of all lighting used in the field and in studio. We will cover gels, scrims, flags, and diffusion as well as discuss how to make best use of available light. Prerequisite: Basic Production Skills. Tuesday, July 27 at 2pm (LP3) 90 minutes Wednesday, August 4 at 6pm (LP4) 90 minutes Audio This class will introduce you to microphones, mixers, cables and connectors and more. Concepts including line level vs. mic level and phantom power will be covered. In addition, common audio problems such as hum and buzz and solutions to these problems will be address. Prerequisite: Basic Production Skills. Tuesday, August 3 at 2pm (A3) 2 hours Wednesday, August 10 at 6pm (A4) 2 hours Chroma Key (Green Screen Technology) This class will explore the technology and fun behind green screen/blue screen application. Learn how to replace a solid color background with alternate video or images in both live and postproduction applications. Prerequisite: Basic Production Skills and Editing. Wednesday, Aug 25 at 6pm CH1 90 minutes Advanced Audio/Mackie TT24 Audio Console This class will explore the nature of sound, and how humans perceive it. We will also discuss how to interconnect multiple devices and the problems associated with doing so. Finally we will give an overview of some of the advanced features found in audio mixers such as the Mackie TT24 found in our main studio. Prerequisite: Basic Audio. Wednesday, August 18 at 6pm AA1 2 hours Working with the Truck This class will prepare you to assist FATV and other members in producing live and live-to-tape productions using our production truck. We will teach you how to operate our JVC 550U cameras and their tripods, proper reeling and unreeling of cables, etc. We will also give a basic overview of the layout of the truck and how things operate. Prerequisite: Basic Production. It is suggested that you also take Introduction to Multi-Camera Environments prior, but it is not a requirement. Wednesday, August 18 at 2pm TR1 2 hours TV-101 This class will provide and inside look to TV and a production studio. Only a viewer of TV and want to learn and understand how TV is created. We will review, TV shows, discuss Media Literacy, and give you basic hands on studio camera skills. You will walk away with a whole new idea of TV and feel comfortable standing behind the camera as an operator. Thursday, Aug12, at 2pm TV1 2 hours Tuesday, Aug 17, at 6pm TV2 2 hours Directing This class will explore the opportunity and philosophy behind directing, including teamwork and leadership fundamentals, practical aspects; including composition, staging, giving of commands and instructions to the crew, and making effective use of transitions.
